Priming Watermelon Resistance by Activating Physiological Response and Defense Gene Expression to Alleviate Fusarium Wilt in Wheat-Watermelon Intercropping

چکیده
Wheat intercropping in watermelon could provide relief from the occurrence of Fusarium wilting watermelon, a severe soil-borne disease caused by fungus oxysporum f. sp. niveum (FON). The current study aims to investigate effect root exudates three wheat cultivars and one cultivar on growth FON responses wilt with wheat. results revealed contrasting effects mycelial FON; inhibited FON, promoted FON. Watermelon plants suffered less system than monocropping system. reduced incidence this was associated role that Malondialdehyde (MDA) contents decreased compared after inoculation. catalase (CAT), superoxide dismutase (SOD), ascorbate peroxidase (APX), polyphenol oxidase (PPO) activities, total phenolics flavonoid roots were significantly higher those Real-time PCR analysis showed ClCAT, ClSOD, ClAPX, ClPPO defensive enzymes ClPDF2.1 ClPDF2.4 defensin-like gene expression induced during early stage inoculation system, while peroxidases did not show significant response infection. It is suggested alleviates reducing population rhizospheric soil activating physiological defense protect infection improve resistance

Intercropping with aerobic rice suppressed Fusarium wilt in watermelon
Watermelon is susceptible to Fusarium wilt in successively mono-cropped soil. Pot experiments were carried out to investigate the effect of intercropping with aerobic rice on Fusarium wilt in watermelon. The tested soil was classified as a loam soil, previously planted with watermelon and collected from Hexian county, Anhui province, China. The results obtained are listed as follows: (1) 66.7% ...
متن کاملPriming maize resistance by its neighbors: activating 1,4-benzoxazine-3-ones synthesis and defense gene expression to alleviate leaf disease
Plant disease can be effectively suppressed in intercropping systems. Our previous study demonstrated that neighboring maize plants can restrict the spread of soil-borne pathogens of pepper plants by secreting defense compounds into the soil. However, whether maize plant can receive benefits from its neighboring pepper plants in an intercropping system is little attention. We examined the effec...

Inheritance of resistance to zucchini yellow mosaic virus and watermelon mosaic virus in watermelon.
High resistance to zucchini yellow mosaic virus-China strain (ZYMV-CH) and moderate resistance to watermelon mosaic virus (WMV) were found in a selection of PI 595203 (Citrullus lanatus var. lanatus), an Egusi type originally collected in Nigeria. Mixed inoculations showed primarily that these two viruses have no cross-protection. This fact may explain the high frequency of mixed infection ofte...
